Three secrets for achieving your goals

The beginning of a new year is a natural time to reflect on our accomplishments and set our goals for the year to come. In this post, I share with you 3 secrets for actually achieving them, backed up by science.

Have your goals written down

A study by Dr. Gail Matthews from the Dominican University of California showed that the likelihood of achieving your goals increases with 42% simply by writing them down. Remember that goals are a dream with a deadline. Make them concrete and measurable — so you can track your progress. Check out these tips on making your goals even smarter.

Keep your goals in sight

Ensure you get continuous reminders on what you’ve set out to achieve. Out of sight really is out of mind. There are so many things in our day that demand our attention. If we only give our goals the time, attention or focus we’ve got left, it is unlikely we will ever make any progress. I prefer to make a mood board at the end of each year, with inspirational images representing my goals and pin it to my bedroom wall. This way, I naturally commit to my goals every day. The second factor which according to Dr. Gail Matthews has huge impact on achieving your goals.

Take massive amounts of action

Your written goals help you to focus your attention. Achieving your goals means work. I believe massive actions equals massive results. But nobody said you have to it all alone. See who you can support you in achieving your goals, by making action requests. By sharing your goal, and declaring your accountability, you further increase the likelihood of succes.
