Time to cut the crap!
It’s time to cut the crap
The beginning of a New Year is the perfect moment for tossing out those things you don’t need anymore. Whether it’s the leftovers in your fridge from the Christmas dinner, those seasonal greeting cards you’ve received or filing your administration from last year. It’s time to cut the crap!
An empty diary? No way!
Don’t be fooled by those blank pages in your new diary. If you’re not careful these won’t stay empty for long. The New Year is a great time for making plans. Just ensure you remain in the drivers seat. If you feel overwhelmed now is the time to start saying a more firmer no. It’s time to cut the crap!
Since you’re browsing through your agenda anyway, take some time to plan ahead. Goals mean nothing if you don’t action upon them. And taking action requires time. You need to dedicate some of your most precious resources in order to achieve them. Because every minute lost can never be retrieved. So it’s really time to cut the crap (and get going!)
Do a Digital Dump
Besides all the physical stuff you collect, it is also a good idea to do a digital clean-up. Delete those hundreds of unread emails. At least those older then three months. Face it: you’ll never going to read them anyway. At least get them out of your inbox. Unsubscribe from mailinglists that no longer suit your needs. So no unnecessary crappy emails get in your inbox. Be rigorous and cut the crap!
Develop new systems
Now is also the perfect time to develop and implement new habits that prevent crap from piling up. Face it, we will all need to deal with tough issues at times. It’s almost impossible to live in a crap-free world. But when you step back you can often see more clearly how you can prevent it from lingering too long. Spend some time on building better systems that help you cut the crap!
This often comes down to making deliberate choices. And that can be quite exhausting at times. I always find it helpful to get support from others, so you don’t feel like you have to do it all alone. Feel free to contact me in case you need support on this!
