There is one basic rule in life: preparation always pays off. Whether it is taking 5 minutes to plan your day in the morning, before you go into some tough negotiations or if you want to wow everybody at a fancy dinner party, proper preparation increases your chance on success immensely.
Make planning a habit
Make it a habit to put significant effort in getting your strategy in place – in the cases above it is spending time on setting your priorities straight, pre-empting your opponents offer and concerns, resp. crafting a nifty shopping list for that perfect meal. Time spend on planning is never wasted.
Planning saves time
Coming well prepared to meetings saves massive amounts of time. Coming well prepared to discussions often places the dices in your favor. It puts you ahead in your game, giving immense peace of mind. It helps you to focus on the truly important things in your life. It allows you to create space in both your head and your calendar.
Don’t overdo it
One pitfall you should take into account is over-planning. When you are spending too much time in making your 2Do-list look “perfect” (with color coding, special symbols, online-tracking-tools, you know the routine…) you should explore if you are not procrastinating on the real tasks at head.
But since you are now well prepared, you have plenty of time to sort that one out!
